Beginning on June 1, Hocking College will partner with the PAST Foundation (Partnering Anthropology with Science and Technology) and the Fairfield County Education Service Center to host a STEM field school for students and teachers from four area school districts.  

Students and teachers from Fairfield Union, Federal Hocking, Lancaster City and Walnut Township School Districts will participate in two four-day field schools that will connect them to real world environmental challenges.

The field school experience is part of the STEM Outdoor Innovation Lab (SOIL) project that will provide students the opportunity to experience hands-on learning at Hocking College. The curriculum is modeled around trans disciplinary problem-based learning. In the field, students will encounter problems and discover solutions through the application of their own creative problem solving skills and the application of knowledge and experience. Activities will be structured so that students will participate in three natural resources and three advanced energy activities that are designed to address real-world sustainability problems. The field school experience will culminate with team presentations that summarize their research, conclusions and solutions.
