Dr. Betty Young was selected to be the third President of Hocking College by the Hocking College Board of Trustees at their meeting on April 30, 2015.

Dr. Young has been serving as the Interim President of Hocking College since October 2014. She will be employed under a two-year contract beginning on May 1, 2015, and running through April 30, 2017. Young was chosen after a national search was conducted to fill the position.

Known to be an innovator in higher education, Young has led colleges to enrollment growth through both retention and new programming. She has an emphasis on outreach and marketing, as a continual advocate for two-year colleges in both the local communities and the state and federal legislatures. Young has extensive experience in workforce development and has chaired the Workforce and Economic Development Commission of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) on the implementation team focused on skills gaps for the 21st Century Initiative.

Prior to serving as the Interim President of Hocking College she served as the President of the Coleman College for Health Sciences at Houston Community College, TX. Prior to that, she was president of Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College in North Carolina and Northwest State Community College in Archbold, Ohio. Her first positions within higher education were faculty and department chair for Washington State Community College, and as Dean and Assistant Vice President for Franklin University in Columbus.

Dr. Young earned several degrees from Ohio University, Athens, OH, including an Associate of Science in Mathematics and Science, a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting/Management, a Masters of Education in Higher Education, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education Leadership. She also earned a Juris Doctor and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Business Law from Capital University Law School, Columbus, OH.
