The Ohio Governor's Council on People With Disabilities has awarded the Hocking College Police Department for Accessible Parking Enforcement.

The Accessible Parking Enforcement award is given to departments that show innovative and progressive methods in improving the quality of lives for Ohio residents with disabilities. The Hocking College Police Department is proud to contribute to campus accessibility to increase mobility and community inclusion for people with disabilities.

The department's policy on accessible parking provides designated lots specifically for individuals with disabilities. These areas are regularly patrolled to ensure vehicles present valid and up-to-date permits. Additionally, the Hocking College Police Department has expanded their disability parking during events such as Hocktoberfest and the Nelsonville Music Festival. Updated "Parking Regulations" are distributed to students and faculty to inform them on areas of designated parking and open parking for other individuals.

"I was extremely pleased to receive the award presented by the Ohio Governor's Council for Accessible Parking Enforcement. This award highlights one of the many things our department does for the betterment of the quality of life in our campus community," Adolphus Matthews, Hocking College Chief of Police, said.
