In honor of Police Memorial Week on May 12-18, 2013, the Hocking College Peace Officer Basic Training Academy has implemented a new program dedicating each training day to a fallen officer from around the United States.
Police Memorial Week is a national tribute to those men and women who sacrificed their lives in order to protect their own. Each day, a Hocking College Police Academy student will choose a fallen officer and research the incident. At the beginning of each day, a student will read aloud the name of the fallen officer and the circumstances that led to his/her death. The class will then have a moment of silence in their honor to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety and protection of our nation and its people.
The Hocking College School of Public Safety Services is conducting the Peace Officer Basic Academy from May 13 through August 16, 2013. Upon successful completion, students will qualify for Ohio Peace Officer status in accordance with the Ohio Peace Officer Commission and receive 18 college credit hours toward an Associate Degree in Police Science at Hocking College.
